Preposterous New Year

Now, where was I? Oh yeah...

I don't make New Year's Resolutions any more, instead I make a New Year's Affirmation, where I thank the Powers That Be for the good things the previous year brought and hand over my wishlist for the coming year. Now, sometimes in the past my wishlist has contained silly little trivial things like a new hairdryer or lounge suite, a dirty weekend away or a clock that you couldn't turn off and go back to sleep. They were so silly, no wonder they were seldom granted and not necessarily in a timely way if they did eventuate. Now, I am being much more sensitive, cerebral and altruistic in my wishes; this year I want warm feather duvets for everyone this winter, aircon to become standard in homes across the globe, food in plenty, a nice ass, more good loving, an mp3 player for the car and hair that will turn bright purple on demand.

I don't think it's a lot to ask, do you?

The year just gone did bring me some very precious gifts, and they all know who they are. It also brought me some moments to die for, and I wasn't in the mood to be too particular about how it was accomplished. So this year, I'd like more of the good stuff, and less of the shit, thanks Guys.

As this year has ground itself to it's torturous close, I have once more become an ardent people-watcher, dedicated to hearing what people don't say and giving less credence to the words they utter. People who don't say to the person what they say about the person... how their words don't always match their deeds, and how a selective silence can cover a thousand mistruths.

With less good hours in a day, sometimes I seem to observe more in the times I am awake and not simply "on charge". It's very enlightening, if somewhat disappointing at times. It's also made me more critical of myself and my own limitations.

But, isn't the way people get along together fascinating? Or not get along, as the case may be. Personal dynamics are what makes people watching so compulsive, really.

Tonight, we had a short and impromptu lesson in co-operation with 5 of the 6 kids, how there had to be a blanket blending of rules that everyone would abide by if there was to be any sort of peace and harmony in this semi-occasional household.

Such an interesting concept, co-operation.

How the Hell we will get 6 kids to do this is beyond me...
